Privacy Policy

This page explains what data isthisjobreal.com collects, how it's used, and your choices. Plain English, no dark patterns.

What we collect

From the website:

• Your email address — required so we can send you the score result. Never sold, never used for marketing unless you check the opt-in box at submission.
• The job listing you submit — either a URL we scrape, or pasted job description text. Used to compute the score.
• Your IP address — used only for rate limiting (so the service can't be abused). Not stored long-term as a separate field.
• Functional cookies — one CSRF protection cookie. No tracking cookies, no third-party analytics cookies.

From the Chrome extension:

• Your email — you register it once when you first use the extension. Stored in your browser via chrome.storage.sync and sent to our API with each scoring request.
• The job listing you click "Score" on — the URL and any extracted job description text are sent to our API for scoring.
• The extension never auto-extracts or sends data — every score is a deliberate click.

From inbound email (score@isthisjobreal.com):

• Your sender email and message content — processed by our inbound email provider (Postmark) and forwarded to our scoring system. The score reply is sent back to you.

What we don't collect

• We don't create accounts. There are no passwords, no profiles.
• We don't run third-party analytics (no Google Analytics, no Facebook Pixel, no Mixpanel).
• We don't track you across other websites.
• We don't sell your data to anyone.
• The extension does not see, store, or transmit any data from a job listing page until you click the "Score This Job" button.

What we display publicly

Each score result has a unique shareable URL (e.g., /result/abc123/). That page shows:

• The job title (when extractable)
• The score and signal breakdown
• The original listing URL (for URL submissions)

What's never shown publicly:

• Company names — we extract them internally for our own analysis but never display them on result pages or the Scroll of Shame.
• Your email address.
• Your IP address.

Service providers we share data with

• Railway — our hosting provider. Stores the database that holds score requests.
• Postmark — our email provider. Handles outbound replies and inbound mail to score@isthisjobreal.com.
• Google Fonts — our pages load Space Grotesk and Source Sans 3 from Google's CDN. Google sees the IP address making the font request. (We don't pass any other identifying data.)

We don't share your data with anyone else. We don't sell it.

Data retention

Score requests are retained indefinitely so that result-share links keep working. If you want your data removed, email score@isthisjobreal.com from the address used to submit and we'll delete records associated with that email within 14 days.

Your choices

• Use without an account. We don't have accounts.
• Opt out of marketing. The marketing opt-in checkbox is off by default; we only email you the result of the request you submitted unless you explicitly check it.
• Delete your data. Email us as described above.
• Uninstall the extension. Removes all locally-stored data (your email + API host setting). Anything previously sent to our server stays unless you ask us to delete it.

Children's privacy

This service is not directed at children under 13 and we don't knowingly collect data from them.

Changes

If we materially change this policy, we'll update the date at the top and, for substantive changes, send a notice to anyone who's submitted to us in the past 90 days.
